What Role Should Social Media Play in Politics?

This post started out about the Tiktok ban, but so much has changed and shifted in the time it took me to write it, I feel like it’s almost not relevant anymore. Or more accurately, it’s still relevant but there has been such an onslaught of executive orders and senate confirmations and federal fund freezing since the inauguration that it’s hard to know what to focus on or what my role in any of this should be. Do I take a step back to maintain my sanity? Do I take a step forward to show defiance? Will there be repercussions for speaking my mind? Do I even know what I’m talking about?
